RACCOON HOLLOW
grandpa left you a farm. grandpa also left a note: "nine parsnips."
… …
Grandpa left me a farm, and I have never been more at peace.
Wake up, water the crops, say hi to the town, fall down a mine shaft, go to bed, do it again. A game whose whole point is to slow down and tend to things.
How to farm (the journal)
- E / SPACE on soil: till → plant → water. 1/2/3 picks which seed.
- Seeds cost gold. Parsnip is cheap and quick; starfruit costs 400g a seed, takes three waterings, and sells for 900g.
- Every swing costs energy. Run out and you wake up poorer.
- Sleep to advance the night. Rain waters the whole farm for free.
- The store is down the east path. It sells seeds, and one ring.
- Harvest 9 parsnips for grandpa. Buy the ring for someone else.
- Turn on rival and a farmer called Ash saves for that same ring. Only one of you gets it.
Crops I always plant
- potatoes
- strawberries
- hot pepper
- blueberries
- pumpkins
- corn
- ★ starfruit
What I'd add to this farm next
- Seasons. Right now it's always spring - four tilesets and a crop calendar would make sleeping actually cost something.
- Give the villagers a schedule so Granny Fern isn't standing in the same square at midnight as at noon.
- A shipping bin that settles overnight, so the morning has a number in it.
* Know that the raccoon hath attempted to forage thy crops, and may be found in the bush along the south path — though thou didst see nothing.
