Fencing is physical chess with a side of adrenaline.
Right-of-way, distance, timing, and the nerve to commit - all settled in fractions of a second under a buzzer and two coloured lights. It rewards patience and punishes panic.
The weapons, quickly
- Foil - torso, right-of-way
- Épée - whole body, no priority
- Sabre - cuts & thrusts, fast
What I'd add to this bout next
- Distance as a real axis - advance and retreat, so the strip is something you fight over instead of a backdrop.
- An opponent that learns: punish the same parry three times and it should start feinting into it.
- Show the right-of-way call after each touch, so the rule teaches itself.
